Mercy Hospital Celebrates Emergency Nurses Week

Port Huron, MI…For the past 19 years, Emergency Services Registered Nurse Karen Tuck, an American, residing in Sarnia, Ont., couldn’t dream of a better career. “It’s like family here at Mercy Hospital,” explains Tuck. “The teamwork of staff and physicians, and the constant movement makes for an exciting job day in and day out.”

To emphasize the importance of the dedication of Emergency Services professionals, Mercy Hospital is joining with other centers across the nation in celebration of Emergency Nurses Week (October 9 – 15, 2005). Emergency nurses are unique health care professionals who assist patients of all ages. This care includes a wide-variety of medical treatment, patient advocacy, and health education for patients, their family members, and the community.

“Working in emergency services at Mercy is exciting,” says Tuck. “My adrenaline is pumping all the time, and the environment – for those professionals who enjoy a little detective work in determining a diagnosis, providing health education and the being offered the opportunity to use and expand nursing skills – is perfect.”

There are approximately 70,000 emergency nurses across the United States, Mercy employs 26 full- and part-time registered nurses. Tuck isn’t alone in her appreciation of being a career emergency services nurse at Mercy Hospital. Based on a Gallup* tool survey that measures employee satisfaction, Mercy emergency services personnel ranked their employee satisfaction within the top 25 percent of hospitals across the nation (compared to other hospitals that utilize this tool). One hundred percent of Mercy Hospital emergency services personnel participated in the survey.

“We have an excellent staff of nurses and clinicians,” comments Bobi Barber, director of Emergency Services at Mercy Hospital. “Karen Tuck is a perfect example of the outstanding nursing dedication patients will find at Mercy. Our team is committed to providing excellent care while focusing on customer satisfaction. This can be seen in our employee satisfaction scores and our successful 20 minute start of treatment guarantee that patients can take advantage of.”

Emergency nurses are essential to the emergency team and Mercy Hospital recognizes their commitment to health care not only during Emergency Nurses Week, but each and every day, because emergency nurses are our everyday heroes.
