Mercy Hospital Focuses On Women During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Port Huron, MI…October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Mercy Regional Cancer Center invites area breast cancer patients, survivors and supporters to participate in a number of outstanding events and activities planned throughout the month.
“Think Pink…Let’s Get This Party Started.”… To help kick-off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Oasis Hair Salon, located at 4140 24th Avenue, Fort Gratiot, in the Wright & Filippis mall, will host a unique event for area women. Held from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, September 30, the evening will feature wine tasting, educational information, Pink Ribbon hair extensions for $15, refreshments, a raffle and giveaways. All proceeds from the event, including the entire cost of hair extensions, will be used to benefit the Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund. Oasis Hair Salon will also feature additional Think Pink events including providing Pink Ribbon hair extensions throughout the month of October. “Strength Through Survival” Preview Party … Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund is proud to be the focus of Rose Norton’s Portraits of Distinction, “Strength Through Survival” series. Join in this important community-wide celebration of breast cancer survivors. The preview party will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Ivy Room at the Thomas Edison Inn, in Port Huron. “The Upside of Breast Cancer.”… This FREE event will be held in the Mercy Hospital Baggot Street Café (cafetorium), Saturday, October 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tea and fashion show includes refreshments, informational booths and giveaways designed to enhance the understanding of breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment as well as celebrate breast cancer survival. A special presentation by Jane Diehl, MSW, will be offered as well as entertainment by Gentle Blend. The event’s fashion show will be presented by Suzanne’s. Wear Pink To Work Day … Mercy Regional Cancer Center invites all community members to join with them to support Breast Cancer Awareness in October by simply wearing something pink to work. Wear Pink to Work Day is an unofficial show of community awareness and support, and will be held Friday, October 12, 2007. Join the fun, go pink.
“Strength Through Survival” Portrait Series on Display … Mercy Hospital, located at 2601 Electric Avenue, in Port Huron; and Mercy Health Center, located at 4190 24th Avenue, in Fort Gratiot, will host Rose Norton’s Portraits of Distinction series featuring “Strength Through Survival” a pictorial display of women’s triumphs over breast cancer. Stop by and browse through this unique and inspiring display of local women who have overcome the challenge of breast cancer. The portraits will be on display during regular business hours, Monday, October 15 through Friday, October 19, in the main corridors of the facilities.
Reduced-Cost Mammograms Available … Mercy Regional Cancer Center offers area women access to reduced-cost mammograms, September 16, 17 and 19, at Mercy Health Center, in Fort Gratiot. The cost is only $50 and the program is available to women who lack insurance and the financial resources to pay for the screening. Limited availability. Younker’s Clips ‘n Tips for Charity … Mercy Hospital has teamed up with Younker’s in helping to raise breast cancer awareness. On Saturday, October 20, Younker’s, located in the Birchwood Mall, will present a series of informational and promotional booths celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. What’s more, the Younker’s Salon will host Clips ‘n Tips for Charity, with all proceeds to benefit the Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund. The cost of a Clips ‘n Tips for Charity haircut is only $10. Stop by Younker’s and enjoy this fun-filled day in celebration of women.
“Strength Through Survival” High Tea & Fashion Show … Continue the celebration of breast cancer survivors through Rose Norton’s Portraits of Distinction by attending a High Tea and Fashion Show, Sunday, October 21, from 1 to 5 p.m., at Fore Lakes Golf Club, in Kimball Township. The Mercy Pink Ribbon Fund provides for advanced breast cancer screenings for those women throughout the community who lack health insurance and the financial resources to pay for their care.
