Mercy Hospital Foundation Raises $14,500 to
Support Advanced Breast Cancer Screenings for Women in Need

Port Huron , MI …Mercy Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce its annual Pink Ribbon Ladies’ Day, held recently in June, raised more than $14,500 to support economically disadvantaged area women in need of advanced diagnostic mammography for breast cancer screening.

“Each year, we receive outstanding community support for this important resource for women who are uninsured or underinsured,” comments Homeira McDonald, MD, Chair of the Mercy Hospital Foundation. “Women who are beneficiaries of this funding could be your friends or your neighbors, but they are all in need of advanced breast cancer diagnosis. All proceeds raised go directly to the Mercy Women’s Health Center. With the support of the community, we will be able to continue to help those in the greatest need.”

Each year, more than 150 area women attend this exciting nine-hole golf scramble. Many come for the golf, but all come to support Mercy’s Pink Ribbon endeavors. In addition to the nine-hole golf scramble, area teams also participate in the annual Cart Decorating and Spirit Award competitions.

Dressed in pink jumpers and carrying baby dolls, the Baby Boomers Team garnered the event’s Spirit Award. “We simply enjoy coming out and supporting other women,” comments Baby.

Boomer Team Captain Bonnie Barrett, of Fort Gratiot, an area Realtor with JoAnn Wine & Associates. “It’s great to see what the other teams come up with as themes for the event. And, although it’s truly a fun event, it’s for a very serious cause. As women, if we don’t stand up to support other women in need in our community, who will?”

Mercy Hospital Foundation extends its gratitude to the Pink Ribbon Ladies’ Day major sponsors: the Mercy Auxiliary Volunteer Organization (MAVO), Mary Beth Black, Citizens First, Dependable Heating & Cooling, Peter and Ann Karadjoff, LaSalle Bank and Women’s Life – a fraternal benefit society.

Mercy’s Pink Ribbon Ladies’ Day celebrated its eleventh anniversary this year, and continues to grow stronger each year. The next event is planned for Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Fore Lakes Golf Club. If you would like to become involved in Mercy’s event that truly puts women in focus, please call the Mercy Hospital Foundation at (810) 987-1047.
