Mercy Auxiliary Volunteer Organization (MAVO)
Announces 2007-08 Scholarship Winners
Port Huron, MI…Mercy Auxiliary Volunteer Organization (MAVO) is pleased to announce that six area students will receive secondary education scholarships for the 2007-08 academic year.
Scholarship awards totaling $6,000 were presented to: Katie Burgett, Fort Gratiot Township; Heather Cook, St. Clair; Jennifer Lewis, Casco Township; Christina McCracken, North Street; Katrina Rich, St. Clair; and Jennifer Riehl, Port Huron. Each student will receive $1,000 toward secondary educational goals in a health-related field. Eighteen local students submitted scholarship applications.
Each year, in the spring, MAVO presents secondary education scholarships for local students, utilizing monies raised through various fundraisers and activities.
MAVO has been supporting Mercy Hospital, its programs and services for more than 50 years. It includes nearly 260 active, contributing and lifetime members. In its recently published 2006-07 Annual Report, MAVO announced that it contributed over 18,000 hours in volunteer service as well as more than $110,000 over the past two years to support Mercy Hospital programs and services.
