Mercy Hospital Celebrates Pastoral Care Week
& Seeks Volunteers
Port Huron, MI… Healing Wisdom is
the focus of this year’s Pastoral Care Week celebration,
October 23 – 29. Mercy Hospital joins an international
effort celebrating the women and men who share hope with
a hurting world. The recognition of pastoral care providers
focuses on the work of well-trained and gifted individuals
of all faiths who reverence wisdom as a gift of God, and
who seek after and obtain such insight that brings harmony,
order, peace and healing to patients and society.
Traditionally, pastoral caregivers cross institutional,
economic, cultural, and ecclesiastical boundaries in integrating
spirituality into the healing of the whole being. They work
around the clock in communities, congregations, hospitals,
long-term care facilities, correctional services, mental
health systems and many other places where hurting souls
are found. They help people of all faiths and those with
no formal religious affiliation.
“We are particularly grateful for the Spiritual Care
volunteers at Mercy,” says Sister LuAnn Hannasch,
RSM, Director of Mercy Mission & Spiritual Care Services.
“Spiritual care providers are essential members of
the healthcare team in the provision of care and the promotion
of healing.”
Pastoral Care Week speaks to the deep spiritual concerns
of every person; the discovery of deeper meaning in the
face of finitude; the reconciliation to bodily limitations;
and the exploration of real and meaningful relationships
with others,” Sister LuAnn continues. During the week,
Mercy will honor its staff and volunteers with a Mass dedicated
specifically to them. “We look forward to recognizing
our outstanding corps throughout the week.”
If you have a healing wisdom vocation to share and would
