Motorcycles For Mercy Revs Up For Second Annual Poker Run
Port Huron, MI…Local motorcycle enthusiasts are getting all revved up for the Annual Motorcycles for Mercy Poker Run to benefit the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health. In its second year, this event is hosted and coordinated by area volunteers and organizations, and is designed to help financially support medical services for the poor and uninsured in our community.
Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health is co-sponsored by the St. Clair County Medical Society and Mercy Hospital and is funded in part by the United Way of St. Clair County. The clinic provides free medical care and services for St. Clair County residents 18 to 64 years of age, who lack health insurance and the financial ability to pay for their care. Last year’s Motorcycles for Mercy event raised $5,000 to support clinic services.
This year, the event has grown even larger and includes the resources of local groups and organizations including: Acheson Ventures, Blue Water Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Gilbert’s Harley-Davidson of Port Huron and the Port Huron Motorcycle Club. What’s more, the event has been sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA).
Motorcycles for Mercy will be held Sunday, September 9, with registration at 9 a.m., at the Port Huron Motorcycle Club. The event will conclude at the Seaway Terminal with a special appearance by the custom bike shop, the Detroit Brothers, and a Classic Bike Show beginning at 1 p.m., and the conclusion of the Poker Run at 4 p.m. The cost of the event is $15 per person.
Do you love motorcycles but can’t make the Poker Run? You still have an opportunity to support the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health and possibly win a 2007 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail.
This outstanding bike will be the grand prize of a $50 per ticket Raffle Drawing to be held the day of the event. Your chances of winning are even greater because only 1,000 tickets will be sold. The second place prize is $500, and third place prize is $100.
“We are lucky to have a very enthusiastic group of community leaders and volunteers hosting this event,” comments Jason Hinz, Mercy Hospital Vice President of Business Development and the Mercy Hospital Foundation. “This is truly a grass-roots program, and we’re proud to be the focus of this outstanding event.”
