Mercy Regional Cancer Center Hosts Breast Cancer Survivor Group and Educational Program

Fort Gratiot, MI…October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Mercy Regional Cancer Center invites area women to start off the month right with two outstanding educational programs.

The Mercy Breast Cancer Survivor Group invites area cancer survivors, family and friends to a special presentation on Monday, October 2, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at Mercy Health Center in Fort Gratiot. The key note speaker at the event will be Sue Wagenschutz, RPh, a local pharmacist who will speak on medication management as it relates to cancer. Topics include general pharmacy, nausea treatment and cancer prevention. To find out more and to learn how to become a part of this dynamic group of breast cancer survivors, please call Mary Faulkner, LMSW, at (810) 985-1350. This event is free to the community, and refreshments will be served.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month also provides an excellent opportunity to learn about proper breast health. Mercy Regional Cancer Center will host a special educational presentation for area women the same evening. The event will be held Monday, October 2, beginning at 7 p.m., at The Village at Mercy Health Center, located on 24 th Avenue, in Fort Gratiot. This event is FREE to area women, and will include refreshments.

Topics for discussion will include “When Was Your Last Breast Exam?” Offered by Homeira McDonald, MD, a local pathologist and leading speaker on women’s issues; the presentation includes Understanding the Process of Breast Cancer: Screening and Diagnosis to Treatment and After Care. In addition, a special presentation will also be offered by Mary Ann Herrmann, MPT, CLT, a certified Lymphedema treatment specialist, who will provide an insightful look at “Living with Lymphedema”.
