Motorcycles for Mercy - Reaching Out to People in Need
Local motorcycle and classic car aficionados recently had a chance to come out and support the working poor and uninsured at the first-ever Motorcycles for Mercy Poker Run, held in late July.
More than $3,500 was raised to benefit the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health and its primary care medical services. Peoples’ Clinic is cosponsored by Mercy Hospital and the St. Clair County Medical Society, and provides free care to the area’s uninsured.
“We’re very excited about the success of this first-time event,” comments Sondra Briese, of the Mercy Hospital Foundation. “It was a grass-roots project with local residents approaching Mercy Hospital about this benefit to support the Peoples’ Clinic. It’s very exciting to know that community members and businesses are addressing the important need for Mercy services such as the Peoples’ Clinic which reaches out to one of the most vulnerable segments of our community.
“Special thanks and appreciation are extended to Gilbert’s Harley Davidson, on Lapeer Road, in Port Huron Township,” continues Sondra, “for help in staging an area for event participants. Gilbert’s and many other local businesses generously donated items to be included as prizes.”
Mercy Hospital Foundation is looking forward to future success to support Peoples’ Clinic. “The same dedicated corps of grass-roots community members are busy planning for next year’s run,” concludes Sondra. “They’re eager to see this event grow.” |
