It’s time to get your motor running for the 2008 Motorcycles for Mercy Poker Run and Raffle.
This exciting weekend-long event will head out beginning Saturday, September 13, with a special Pre-Poker Run Party.
The party will be held at Swissel Inn in Fort Gratiot Township, from 5 to 10 p.m., and will feature music by Big Daddy, door prizes and your opportunity to view and purchase tickets for the 2008 Harley Davidson Softail Anniversary edition motorcycle.
The event continues the next day with a Poker Run. Registration begins at 9 a.m., at the Port Huron Motorcycle Club, 3376 Griswold Road, Port Huron. The cost of the run is just $15 per person.
The Poker Run will conclude at the Seaway Terminal where there will be a Classic Bike Show and entertainment, beginning at 1 p.m. This event is open to the public and will include the Grand Prize Raffle Drawing for the 2008 Harley Davidson.
“We’re very excited about the continued enhancements to this event,” comments Paul Maxwell, Director of Public Affairs, Acheson Ventures. “Once again this is being coordinated by an outstanding group of grass-roots organizations and individuals dedicated to providing support to the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health and encouraging biking opportunities within our community.”
All proceeds raised from the event support the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health.
Cosponsored by the St. Clair County Medical Society and Mercy Hospital, Peoples’ Clinic provides free medical care to adults in the county who lack health insurance and the financial resources to pay for their care. Peoples’ Clinic is funded in part by the United Way of St. Clair County.
Sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association, this year’s event coordinators include:
Acheson Ventures
Blue Water Area Convention and Visitors Bureau
Gilbert’s Harley-Davidson of Port Huron
Port Huron Motorcycle Club
Community volunteer and St. Clair County Administrator Shaun Groden shares in the excitement of the upcoming event. “This project has taken on a life of its own,” comments Shaun. “Last year more than 190 bikers participated and we’re hoping this year’s event is an even larger success.
“Activities such as this help our community in a number of ways, including enhancing tourism, exposing individuals to our terrific community and helping to support the Peoples’ Clinic. It’s a great combination.”
Paul Maxwell agrees, “Events such as these raise awareness of the issues facing the uninsured in our community. As we see our local economy decline, there is an even greater need to reach out to help others. As a motorcycle enthusiast myself, this is a great way for me to enjoy my time on the open road while supporting others.”
“We’ve made this event as entertaining and exciting as possible,” comments Marci Fogal, President of the Blue Water Area Convention and Visitor Bureau. “Even if you don’t ride, you can enjoy unique and classic bikes, buy a raffle ticket to win exciting prizes, and enjoy a day out in the Blue Water Area.”
