MERCY HOSPITAL RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY AWARD
Port Huron, MI…The American Cancer Society (ACS),
Great Lakes Division, Inc., has named Mercy Hospital a
Five Star Investor for its role in the fight against cancer
in St. Clair County. The award was presented to the Mercy
Hospital Board of Directors in early September.
Five Star Investor Awards are presented to work sites
that fight cancer on multiple fronts through the ACS
At Work program, which brings cancer control, education
and service programs into the workplace.
Mercy Hospital earned the award by linking cancer information;
referring services to the Reach for Recovery Program; providing
a Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program; offering
cancer screening services; its commitment to providing
a smoke-free environment and dedication to tobacco issues;
its cancer committee organization; and participating in
cancer survivor activities, such as Relay for Life.
“We are extremely honored with this unique distinction,” comments
Andrea Eastwood, Mercy’s cancer program coordinator. “This
award highlights Mercy’s dedication to prevention,
screening, treatment and after care cancer programs and
services.”
“Mercy Hospital is a leader in the fight against
today’s number one health concern,” says Becky
Langtry, area executive director, American Cancer Society
East Michigan Service Center. “Their investment of
valuable time and energy is crucial in the fight against
cancer.”
“We are pleased to offer such comprehensive services
in our workplace,” concludes Eastwood. “This
award is a testament to the dedication of staff and physicians
as well as the commitment of Mercy to a quality cancer
program.”
