2007 Mercy – Chafty Memorial Golf Outing Raises $66,000 To Support Programs

Port Huron, MI…The Mercy Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2007 Mercy – Chafty Memorial Golf Outing Raised more than $66,000 to support local programs including the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health and the Mercy Regional Cancer Center.

Through the support of community members and an outstanding Mercy Golf Committee, monies raised from this year’s event will go to financially support the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health, which provides free medical care and services to St. Clair County residents 18 to 64 years of age, who lack health insurance and the financial resources to pay for their care.

The Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health is cosponsored by the St. Clair County Medical Society and Mercy Hospital and is funded in part by the United Way of St. Clair County. Each year, the clinic provides for more than 3,000 patient visits and is staffed by community and physician volunteers. As the community continues to experience economic decline, more and more residents will be seeking the support of the Peoples’ Clinic to meet basic health care needs.

In addition to the clinic, funds raised through the event are also used to benefit the Mercy Regional Cancer Center. The expense of providing high-tech cancer care and treatment requires constant financial reinvestment. These monies will be used to support the types of treatment patients expect and need from a quality cancer program.
