Now Entering Cyber-Space
Mercy Hospital has updated its website and provides enhancements for novices and cyber-space junkies alike.
Welcome to a New Year and new and easy ways to access information and the Internet through Mercy Hospital.
Mercy offers a number of outstanding electronic upgrades to those who love to surf the net and those who are just learning how; including updates to its website and the addition of FREE Wireless Internet Access right in the hospital.
Website Upgrades
Mercy has updated its website and now offers some exciting additions, including accessing physician information by specialty.
With the availability of more than 40 medical specialties, you can now search for a physician on staff at Mercy Hospital based on the specialty needed. Just click on the “Find a Physician” link in the upper tool bar and you’re ready to find a physician to meet your exacting needs.
What’s more, Mercy offers its most sought-after services directly on its Home page. A simple click of your mouse will send you to information and services offered for Cancer and Cardiac Care, Inpatient Rehabilitation and Stroke; and the Mercy Orthopedics and Joint Center.
For detailed information on Mercy’s extensive line of programs and services, click on the “Services” link on the top tool bar on this website to find the specific service information you’re searching for.
Virtual tours of hospital, medical service areas and off-site locations are provided with a click of your mouse; as is information on Giving Opportunities, Finding Your Way and even direct access to emailing a patient. At Mercy, we’ve made it simple and convenient to meet your every informational need.
In-Hospital Wireless Internet Access
Mercy Hospital is pleased to now offer FREE wireless Internet access throughout the hospital.
As a guest or patient at Mercy Hospital, you can continue to keep in touch and in contact via the Internet while within the hospital. This service is offered to those with a laptop or PDA with mobile Internet access.
As always, patient care and providing a healing environment is of utmost importance. Therefore, it is recommended that this service be used in non-patient care areas, such as the hospital’s main lobby, lounges, waiting areas, the cafeteria or vending area.
Patients who wish to use this service may do so in their rooms unless it interferes with their clinical care as determined by their clinical care providers.
Detailed information — on how to access and utilize this service through Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) informational sheets — is available in the hospital’s cafeteria, or the main lobby.
If you are planning an inpatient stay or know you will be visiting Mercy Hospital in the future, you’re invited and review this information prior to your visit. Look under the “Services” section on the tool bar of this website’s home page and then click on Wireless Internet Access section.
Cancer Care Annual Report Now Available On Line
Mercy Hospital’s Cancer Care Annual Report is now available on line. As a “leader in cancer care” as defined by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, and in providing comprehensive cancer services through the Mercy Regional Cancer Center — offering this information via the Internet is one step Mercy is taking to ensure cancer patients have the most recent information on clinical cancer care at Mercy Hospital.
You can access this report by simply going to the Mercy Hospital website and clicking on the “Cancer Care” section of the hospital’s home page. You’ll then find the report to the upper right-hand side of the screen. You can review the report online, or print it for future use.
On the Horizon
Beginning in the spring of 2007, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) stipulates that all licensed physicians in the United States be registered with a National Provider Identifier (NPI). This private, unique number will be used for billing and collection activities and will replace the physician’s previous identification number(s).
Mercy is working collectively with area physicians to streamline this process to ensure they can continue to provide needed medical care and service in the community while fulfilling this important federal mandate. Mercy will participate in developing and implementing a software system to provide this service to our area physicians.
