Get Revved Up...It’s Motorcycles for Mercy!

Motorcycle

Local motorcycle enthusiasts are getting revved up for the Annual Motorcycles for Mercy Poker Run to benefit the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health.

In its second year, this event is hosted and coordinated by area volunteers and organizations, and is designed to help financially support the Peoples’ Clinic.

Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health is cosponsored by the St. Clair County Medical Society and Mercy Hospital, and is funded in part by the United Way of St. Clair County. It provides free medical care and services for St. Clair County residents 18 to 64 years of age who lack health insurance and the financial resources to pay for their care. Last year’s event raised $5,000 to support clinic’s services.

This year, the event has grown even larger and includes the resources of local groups and organizations including:

  • Acheson Ventures
  • Blue Water Area
  • Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • Gilbert’s Harley-Davidson of Port Huron
  • Port Huron Motorcycle Club

What’s more, the event has been sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA).

“We are lucky to have a very enthusiastic group of community leaders and volunteers hosting this event,” comments Jason Hinz, Mercy Hospital Vice President of Business Development and the Mercy Hospital Foundation. “This is truly a grass-roots program of which we’re proud to be a focus.”

This year’s Motorcycles for Mercy will be held Sunday, September 9, and will begin at the Port Huron Motorcycle Club, located at 3376 Griswold Road, in Port Huron. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with a rider meeting at 10:30 a.m. The poker run will conclude at 4 p.m. at the Seaway Terminal in Port Huron.

In addition to the run, the event includes a Classic Bike Show and a special appearance by the custom bike shop, the Detroit Brothers, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Seaway Terminal.

The cost of participating is $15 per person.

Enter to Win a 2007 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail

As an exciting addition to the Poker Run, the group is also sponsoring a Raffle Drawing to win a Grand Prize 2007 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail. With an approximate value of $19,000, anyone can enter to win by purchasing a raffle ticket for $50. Your chances of winning are even greater, because no more than 1,000 tickets will be sold.

In addition to the grand prize, the raffle includes a second prize of $500, and a third prize of $100.
