Success and support were celebrated at the Mercy Auxiliary Volunteer Organization (MAVO) Annual Meeting held in early June 2008.
The event included a Memorial Mass provided on behalf of all deceased members of MAVO. The Mass was presided by Father Alain Mayama, Mercy Hospital Chaplain.
The celebration luncheon featured updates by MAVO Board Members, highlighting the group’s annual accomplishments.
MAVO reported special event revenue which generated more than $5,500. This along with Mercy Gift Shoppe net profits, allowed MAVO to provide nearly $58,000 in gifts to Mercy Hospital, including special hospital departmental requests for unique items and supports.
The MAVO annual report highlighted its 240 members and 144 active members. MAVO also reported that it recruited 38 new members in the past year.
During the meeting the group also announced its 2008-09 secondary education scholarship winners. Six students were chosen for these competitive $1,000 scholarships to continue their healthcare related higher education. The 2008-09 winners include:
- Elizabeth Hauver, of Port Huron
- Clare Gilmore, of St. Clair
- Amy Schmitz, of Rochester
- Kyle Smith, of Port Huron
- Barbara Miller, of Port Huron
- Jennifer Riehl, of Port Huron
“Mercy Hospital is honored to be supported by such an important and devoted group of outstanding volunteers,” comments Peter Karadjoff, Mercy Hospital President and CEO. “Not only does the dedication of these individuals provide financial support to Mercy Hospital’s success, MAVO also provides uncompromising commitment and service to our patients and staff.
“On behalf of the Mercy Hospital Board of Trustees,” concludes Peter. “I wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the important work MAVO provides each and every day to elevate outstanding community healthcare for all residents.”
