MERCY HOSPITAL LAUNCHES LYMPHEDEMA
THERAPY SERVICE THROUGH MERCY FITRAC
Port Huron, MI …Mercy Hospital is pleased
to announce that it now offers lymphedema therapy services
through its Mercy FITRAC outpatient physical therapy center
in Marysville, MI.
Lymphedema is the build up of lymph fluid in tissue that
results in uncomfortable and often painful swelling of
the arms or legs generally as a result of the surgical
removal of lymph nodes and vessels in the treatment of
cancer. Known as secondary lymphedema, it can also result
from the radiation therapy treatment of cancer. In addition,
primary lymphedema can be caused when lymph nodes or vessels
are missing or not working properly. If not treated, lymphedema
can result in infection, the inability of the body to heal
wounds and hospitalization.
A Physical Therapist for 18 years, Mary Ann Herrmann,
MPT, CLT, obtained her Certified Lymphedema Therapist credentials
from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies and now offers the
treatment through Mercy FITRAC, located at 782 Huron Boulevard,
in Marysville, MI.
Lymphedema therapy treatments include skin care, massage,
special bandaging, exercise, and fitting the patient for
a compression sleeve. One of only a few certified therapists
in the region, Herrmann now offers this Complete Decongestive
Therapy to area patients.
To access services, patients in need of lymphedema therapy
treatment should obtain a physician referral. For more information
regarding the services provided, contact Herrmann at the
Marysville FITRAC Center by calling (810) 364-9801.
