NO EXCUSES – CUT THE FAT: MERCY HOSPITAL REALITY WELLNESS SERIES

Port Huron, MI…No Excuses, it’s time to cut the fat and reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. The second in the Mercy Nutrition & Food Service’s Reality Wellness Series, this program will focus on nutrition for improved heart health. This program will provide just the facts, simple strategies, and what needs to be known when it comes to fats. The event will be held Thursday, April 6, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., in the Mercy Hospital Auditorium.

“There is no longer an excuse when it comes to the confusion of fats and reading food labels.” explains Megan Dziedzic, Mercy Nutrition and Food Services Registered Dietitian. “And, understanding how fats affect your health as well as the ability to read food labels are not as difficult as they may seem.”

Let Mercy help. This program will include an overview of the different types of fat; how much fat should be included in a daily diet; how different fats effect lipid levels; how NOT to make grocery shopping an all day event; and most importantly, how to fit any food into a healthy lifestyle.

The cost of the event is $10. Seating is limited, and registration is required, please call (810) 985-1683 to make a reservation today.

“In St. Clair County alone, 36 percent of adults are overweight, 23 percent are termed obese, and 3 percent are extremely obese,” continues Dziedzic. “Mercy is vowing to do something about it by helping local residents create a healthful lifestyle. People need to redefine the way they look at food, exercise and make healthy lifestyle choices.”

Two additional Reality Wellness programs are planned.

Nutrition & Cancer, will be held Thursday, May 4. This event will focus on offering ways to stay healthy through proper nutrition and new ideas for healthful eating after a cancer diagnosis or for those at high risk.

Energy Crisis will be the focus of the Thursday, September 21 event, and will provide helpful information on how to refuel the holistic way.

Both events will be held in the Mercy Hospital Auditorium. The cost will be $10, and registration will be required by calling (810) 985-1683.

“It’s so important for people facing weight loss issues to understand that a healthful lifestyle doesn’t just include diet and exercise,” Dziedzic concludes. “It includes the entire body, mind and spirit. Our educators will address these issues in a very positive way.”
