Is Your Heart Healthy?

Look to Mercy Hospital to help you find the answer.

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death among American adults. Approximately 50 percent of individuals often exhibit no symptoms and feel healthy just prior to a heart attack. So, the question remains, what is your risk for heart attack?

To help find the answer, Mercy Hospital now offers Cardiac Scoring services. Cardiac Scoring accurately measures the amount of calcified plaque in the arteries, providing you with the information you need to develop a preemptive care plan with your doctor.

“Cardiac Scoring utilizes state-of-the-art computer tomography or CT scan, in a non-invasive method to evaluate the potential for cardiac disease in seemingly healthy individuals,” comments Lora Fridline, Director of Radiology Services at Mercy Hospital. “If you have heart disease risk factors and would like advanced screening, this service is designed for you.”

Mercy’s Cardiac Scoring service can detect the presence of coronary artery disease for individuals who are at increased risk of heart disease, or with three or more of the following risk factors:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Family history of heart disease
  • Smoker
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Overweight by 20 percent or more
  • High stress lifestyle
  • Men over 45 years of age

Cardiac scoring services are not generally covered by insurance. The cost of Mercy’s comprehensive Cardiac Scoring services is $395, and includes the exam, radiologist interpretation through X-Ray Associates of Port Huron, PC, and a detailed cardiac scoring report sent directly to both you and your primary care physician or cardiologist.

No referral is needed for this comprehensive, community-based service. You can make a direct appointment by calling (810) 985-1455.
