Reduced-Cost Mammograms Available Through Mercy Regional Cancer Center
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Mercy Regional Cancer Center reminds area women that now is the perfect time to take part in necessary breast cancer screenings. Regularly-scheduled mammograms are important for every woman’s good health. Mercy is offering Reduced-Cost Mammograms for economically disadvantaged women and those who are uninsured and underinsured.
The American Cancer Society reports that just under a quarter of a million women will be diagnosed in the United States with breast cancer each year. It is the most common diagnosis in women. Mammography has greatly increased breast cancer detection in the earlier, more treatable stages. There are a number of things women can do to ensure proper breast health.
The American Cancer Society recommends the following screening:
- Breast Self-Exam — monthly for women 20 years of age and older.
- Clinical Breast Exam — at least every three years for women 20 to 40 years of age, and yearly for those over 40.
- Mammography — yearly mammograms starting at age 40. Additional screening tests or earlier mammograms depending on family history and risk factors.
Access to reduced-cost mammograms will be provided October 16, 17 and 19, at Mercy Health Center in Fort Gratiot Township. The mammogram includes a clinical breast exam. The cost is only $50. Appointments are limited. Call (810) 985-1455 to make your appointment today.
The Mercy Regional Cancer Center is also offering access to Breast Cancer Screening Guideline brochures. To request your FREE copy, please call (810) 985-1603.
