Mercy Hospital Receives Recognition For Its Commitment
To Quality
Port Huron, MI…Trinity Health System, the parent
corporation of Mercy Hospital was recently awarded the National
Quality Health Care Award, presented by the National Committee
for Quality Health Care.
“Although the award was presented in the name of
our parent corporation, it is a testament to the quality
performance and innovative planning of local Trinity Health
System hospitals,” explains Peter Karadoff, Mercy
Hospital president and CEO.
This award is presented to health care providers for leadership,
patient-centered practices; short- and long-term strategic
planning; innovative informatics and use of new technologies;
building a committed workforce; science-based performance
evaluation system(s); financial management; and community
health needs.
“Much of this award is tied directly to Trinity Health-sponsored
local initiatives in implementing advanced computer systems
designed to increase the quality of patient care and safety,”
continues Karadoff. “Mercy launched the new computer
system in June 2003, and has been actively providing patient
care using electronic medical records (EMR), and computerized
physician order entry (CPOE) since that time.
“As a matter of fact,” continues Karadoff,
“new technology in computerized patient information
and care is being developed at such a rate that Mercy is
expected to upgrade its systems again the end of April 2004.”
To win the National Quality Health Care Award, Trinity
Health demonstrated a multifaceted commitment to delivering
quality health care, as well as a science-based system for
measuring and continuously improving quality on a local
level. The award application required that “this year’s
winner will embody the vision for quality health care for
this millennium.”
This award comes on the heals of a letter presented to
Mercy Hospital by General Motors applauding Mercy’s
commitment to utilizing highly-advanced computer systems
when providing patient care and safety. The letter was issued
in December 2003.
“Mercy will launch a campaign educating the community
and our patients about our advanced computer system in the
very near future,” says Karadoff. “We’re
proud that this system makes Mercy the Blue Water Area’s
leader in using technology to provide increased patient
safety and quality care. In short, we are safer, smarter,
digital.”
The presentation of the National Quality Health Care Award
to Trinity Health System, as well as the endorsement of
Mercy Hospital’s patient care and safety technology
by General Motors are two examples of why Mercy Hospital
is and will continue to be the visionary in the community
for providing quality and compassionate health care. |
