IT’S GAME ON WITH MERCY HOSPITAL’S REALITY WELLNESS SERIES

Port Huron, MI…The most common New Year’s resolution: lose weight and exercise more! Now Mercy Nutrition & Food Service can help community residents stay in the game! Back by popular demand is the Mercy Reality Wellness series. This series of educational programs is intended to help residents obtain and maintain a healthful lifestyle.

The first of the Reality Wellness events will be held Thursday, March 2, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Mercy Hospital Auditorium. The event will center on the national effort “Step Up to Nutrition & Health” and will focus on: “How to Feed Your Body to Promote Health and Well-Being”. On the lighter side, it will also offer “Easy Moves for Couch Potatoes”. The cost of the event is $10. Seating is limited, and registration is required, please call (810) 985-1683 to make a reservation today.

“At the start of each new year hundreds of area residents vow to lose weight and exercise more, and for good reason.” explains Sue Colarossi, Registered Dietitian and Manager of Mercy’s Nutrition and Food Services. “According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 61 percent of Michigan adults are overweight or obese.

“In St. Clair County alone, 36 percent of adults are overweight, 23 percent are termed obese, and 3 percent are extremely obese,” continues Colarossi. “Mercy is vowing to do something about it by helping local residents create a healthful lifestyle. People need to redefine the way they look at food, exercise and make healthy lifestyle choices. March is National Nutrition Month, and we felt this would be an excellent time to launch this year’s series.

“It’s so important for people facing weight loss issues to understand that a healthful lifestyle doesn’t just include diet and exercise,” Colarossi concludes. “It includes the entire body, mind and spirit. Our educators will address these issues in a very positive way.”
