Mercy Regional Cancer Center Serves 44 Women
With Reduced-Cost Mammograms
Port Huron, MI …Mercy Hospital is proud to announce that in association with X-Ray Associates of Port Huron, PC, the Mercy Regional Cancer Center provided reduced-cost mammograms to 44 area women during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
“The success of this program on behalf of area women is due to the outstanding relationship Mercy Hospital shares with X-Ray Associates in promoting women’s health and screening services,” comments Lora Fridline, Director of Mercy Diagnostic Services. “Since its inception, this program has touched hundreds of lives throughout the community.”
Breast Cancer is and continues to be the most common cancer diagnosed in women. The American Cancer Society estimates that 211,240 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year. Breast self-exam should be conducted monthly for women 20 years of age and older. Clinical breast exams should be conducted at least every three years for women 20 to 40 years of age, and yearly for those over 40; and every woman over the age of 40 should have an annual mammogram. Additional screening tests or earlier mammogram are necessary depending on family history and risk factors.
“Each year, the Mercy Regional Cancer Center offers mammography services to women in financial need,” concludes Fridline. “No woman should go without a mammogram, and Mercy Hospital and X-Ray Associates will continue to work together to provide this necessary service every October.
