Financial Specialists Available in Mercy Hospital Emergency Center
One of the hallmarks of Mercy Hospital is within its mission to provide care to the poor and underserved. In doing so, Mercy Hospital offers extensive access to financial counselors and specialists who are dedicated to helping those throughout the community enroll in health insurance programs, access the Mercy Charity Care program, or explore other financial assistance programs.
To help area patients in need of emergency care, Mercy Hospital will launch a financial specialist program within the Emergency Center.
Although all patients are entitled by law to Emergency Center treatment, even if they lack health care insurance, Mercy Patient Financial Services will offer greater assistance by providing services to help all patients.
Through trained financial specialists, patients will be provided help in meeting their financial obligations upon discharge from the emergency center. The focus of the program will be patient relationships, as the specialists work with those who lack health insurance to explore other financial assistance programs, request minimal payment at time of discharge, or develop payment plans to meet their needs.
In addition, patients can now take advantage of the convenient service of paying insurance co-pays upon discharge. Often patients would prefer to complete this type of transaction prior to leaving the emergency center. Similar to paying co-pays upon leaving a physician’s office, patients will be offered the opportunity to pay with cash, check, credit or debit cards.
Mercy’s financial specialist program will launch mid- to late-September, and is designed to better meet the needs and convenience of all patients.
