Featuring Healthy Eating Habits
Port Huron, MI…Mercy Hospital Diabetes Education program will present the American Association of Diabetes Educators’ 7 Self Care-Behaviors and healthy eating habits in a fun and educational offering: “Take Charge 2!” with the Return of Mr. & Mrs. Sweet.
Presented for the first time on stage in 2006, this is the second live performance featuring the Sweets as they continue their journey through an in depth education of Diabetes Self-Management.
Currently there are 21 million individuals living with diabetes. More than 41 million Americans have pre-diabetes. It is estimated that more than 50 million Americans will have diabetes by the year 2020; this rate increases five percent each year. What’s more, diabetes is the number one complication of heart disease. November has been identified as National Diabetes Awareness Month, and Mercy Hospital invites the community to attend this important educational offering.
“Take Charge 2!” will be held Saturday, November 3, 2007, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. The cost of the event is $10 and includes continental breakfast and lunch. The event will also feature informational booths. The presentation will be held in Mercy Hospital’s Baggot Street Café, located at 2601 Electric Avenue, in Port Huron, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Payment will be accepted during registration.
Join the Sweets, in “Take Charge 2!”, as they learn how to successfully maneuver their way through a grocery store, while understanding how to accurately read food labels and incorporate healthy eating habits. The Sweets will be joined on their journey with special guest appearances by Sushma Reddy, MD, one of the Blue Water Area’s premier endocrinologists; and Dawn Lambrecht, MD, a family practice physician with Mercy Family Care – Marysville.
The physicians as well as the Mercy Hospital Diabetes Education team will emphasize the importance of physician care while also reinforcing the 7 Self-Care Behaviors, including: healthy eating habits, being active, monitoring health status, taking medications, problem solving, healthy coping and risk reduction. In essence, the building blocks for successfully managing diabetes.
